I need a coffee break
Every Word! August 12th, 2007From racing that is. My last NORBA National was less than spectacular, to say the least. After sitting pretty up the first climb somewhere in the top twenty, my legs suddenly decided to stop working and my body started to feel like a hollow shell. I went backwards, and I went backwards fast. At some point in the race, I recall sitting on the side of the trail staring at my legs and politely asking them to stop cramping. After ten or twenty people passed me, I decided I better get back on my bike so I didn’t get lapped by the Luna train. I got back on and slogged through the rest of the race finishing somewhere in the forties and like 35 minutes slower than Georgia who won…again…wow.
So the bottom line…I’m under-rested and possibly somewhat over-trained, and I’m taking a break - and maybe at some point, my hollow shell of a body will remember that it’s good at racing bikes again! Oh, I just can’t wait! I did end up 22nd in the NORBA series overall, and had two stellar races, so the season wasn’t exactly a waste. I also ended up as the second ranked U-23 pro female in the series (but quite a few points), but for whatever reason, I got to stand in the third place position on the podium yesterday due to a little mix-up….hmmm, don’t you just love it when that happens? Apparently the podium is going to be re-done today, but it’s not really the same, all the pictures have been taken and the moment is gone…bye bye!
On a happier note, Hightower is doing his first mountain bike race today. Expert 25-29 category, oh yeah! He’s not too shabby actually, and he can hang with me on the descents now. Every time I try to drop him, I turn around and he is still there…it’s cool though, I wasn’t trying to go that fast anyhow. :-) And on an even happier note, I will be donning my lovely eighties costume for the Trek/ Gary Fisher party tonight to celebrate the end of the season. Lookout Snowmass, drunk mountain bikers in eighties costumes…your worst nightmare…mwhahaha. Pictures to follow!
