Ride the Pony
Every Word! August 31st, 2007I am a bad blogger. Sorry world…I know you are all soooo sad that I don’t post on a daily basis.
So the last few weeks have involved very little bike riding for me. This has been incredible, so relaxing, sippin’ coffee all morning, reading the news, sampling beer in the evenings, not writing in my blog…uh oh. But when I have managed to swing my legs over a bicycle seat, it’s been a blast. Hightower and I went up to Flagstaff last weekend to compete in an Old Fashioned Mountain Bike Race and Festival. It wasn’t very old-fashioned though, since we had timing chips on our ankles. Or maybe I just don’t know my history very well. Anyways, the race started on a long, false-flat fireroad, then a long, technical singletrack, then a piece of the pipeline road which has HUGE rollercoasters in it, and then a long, fun, fast descent. Yes, it was fun, especially the part where I won and rode the pony across the finish line.
Hightower had a good race also and finished 9th despite a wicked crash on a baby-head infested descent.
The following day, we drove to Skull Valley for a little road racin’, but were both so exhausted from the mountain bike race, that our separate efforts were less than spectacular. But hey, at least we got our priorities straight…well, I have mine straight at least.
Now, it’s back to the grind. School is back in session, so work, work, work. But UA football starts tomorrow and that means tailgating and beer consumption. As for bike racin’, I am almost at the point where I love riding my bike again, and I have my state hillclimb champion jersey to defend in a few weeks, and I might even try to win a road race here or there.
Finally, I want to leave you all with a photo from the awesome 80’s party at the final NORBA race in Snowmass, CO. The costumes were fabulous, and I looked like I was about 7 years old. But Alex from the Vela Bella team sure was pimpin’ it in high style. And high style it was…at $5 for a bottle of Coors. Yeah right!
And I can’t forget how AMAZING my old teammates Sara and Kelli looked!!!
