Cross Monster
Every Word! 2 Comments »The last few months have been a whirlwind adventure for me. Grad school is much more difficult than I had expected it would be. I told myself that if I kept going to school after I got my undergrad degree, I would have plenty of time to train. NAAT! I could not have been more wrong! Even so, I have learned a lot in the last few months, read thousands upon thousands of pages, and been told that I am a crappy teaching assistant. Oh you gotta love it. The university makes you attend a four hour event in which they tell you how to play a name learning game with your students on the first day of class and then makes you take an online test that explains that you should not to have an affair with your students or your professors, and then sends you off into the world and expects you to know how to be a teacher. Fabulous! 
On the cycling side of things, I have not been training much, but am starting up this week with solid hours in the saddle. Kyle built me a sweet cross bike out of an old school Falcon steel frame. It’s real purty!!
Of course, at my first cross race, I had no idea how to dismount, run the barriers, and get back on. I pretty much made an ass of myself, but I won anyways. So in the last few weeks, I have been practicing the art of cross. I can now do the pretty Euro style dismount, and can even hop onto my bike while running relatively fast without bruising my crotch the majority of the time.
On the other cycling side of things, I went to a bike fair with Kyle and a crew of friends on the bars and bikes ride a few weekends ago. All of the rides were pedal powered. It was a crazy time, there was Keystone light consumed, and Kyle barely avoided ripping his ankles off on the ride of death.
Watch out for the bar in the middle. Kyle took his feet off of the pedals and the entire ride stopped immediately. He didn’t feel so good afterwards to say the least!!!!
