Real Cross Racin in AZ
Every Word! 3 Comments »The weather in Arizona in December is typically sunny with a high chance of sun…and maybe some wind. But the cyclo-cross gods decided to bring some real cross weather to the sunshine state this weekend. On Saturday, there was a cross race in Phoenix, and while it was sunny for the women’s race, a torrential downpour started just as the men were lining up to start. It rained so hard, and had been raining the entire day and morning before, that the park we were racing in turned into a swamp. It was awesome. The wind was blowing at like forty miles an hour to make conditions even more prime, and one of the tents the spectators were standing in blew away and completely disintegrated before the promoters could catch upto it running full speed across a dirt lot.
I got second place in my race, getting my ass kicked by a runner. She did really well over the barriers, and I rode the entire sand pit, but it did not even us out as she just get getting time on me through the running sections. Blast! I’ll be running faster next weekend at the state championships.
Kyle won his race. His quote, “I decided to break away from the front group because I thought I could go faster by myself.”
On Sunday there was another cross race here in Tucson. It was sunny with a chance of sun, but at least we got to play in the rain one day this year. Thanks cross gods. The weather forecast for the state championships looks just as rainy as this weekend, and I am more than willing to sacrifice another one of the promoter’s tents in order to have rain.
