24 Hours in the Old Pebbles

So the ArcVelo Corporate Team - aka Three Men and a Little Lady - may have ruffled some feathers at 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo…sorry, it was an honest mistake.  The team - composed of myself (aka Little Lady), Kyle, Jason (a first time mtb racer and Kyle’s little bro), and Dan (the team sponsor) - took 5th place in the 4-men’s (male, man, hombre, what have you) open category.  Well, as some of you may know, I don’t quite cut it as a man (except when I dressed up like Kyle for Halloween).  Anyways, it doesn’t specifically say anywhere in the race rules that you can’t have a woman race in the men’s category - although it would be less acceptable to have a man race on a 4-woman’s team, right?  I don’t know; I don’t have all the answers, but all I have to say is that when we stepped on that podium, I think some people were not too happy…I wouldn’t be happy to get chicked either.  ;-)

Well, whatever, I hope we didn’t ruffle any feathers too badly, and next year we’ll register in a 5-person co-ed team.  Nonetheless, the race was a blast.  Kyle whipped out some super fast laps, while our man Dan won the run, and Jason - who was doing his first mountain bike race ever - kicked some ass.  Here ye go with an essay in pictures.  Also, props to everyone who did that race!  You know who you are, and you rock.

 Driving to the race…snow!!!!

Back again, back again, got a race every weekend.

Two great things happened last weekend racing in Phoenix.  One, the team tactics my team planned played out perfectly.  This was amazing to me as I have been racing solo on the road until now.  Maggie told me exactly when to attack; I attacked which lead to a two-woman break; the break stuck because we both had teammates down the road; I got my ass handed to me in the sprint.  Anyways, it was fun.

The second great thing was that the new doggie is now an official race doggie.  Hayduke threw up in the car on the way to the race, but other than that, he did great and everyone loved him.  Including the race photographer…

If those aren’t cute enough, here are some more pictures of GW Hayduke.

  Doggeh

I was going to dress him up in pink with lots of ribbons and get him a pedicure, but he just doesn’t seem like that kind of dog…

At least he doesn’t have to wear a cone any more.  That was a pain in the ass.

This coming weekend, it’s time for a good ol’ fashioned 24 Hour Race in the Old Pueblo.  Last time I did this race, it rained the whole time, and I quit before 5pm.  This year, we have a four “man” team - officially the ArcVelo Corporate Team…unofficially “Three Men and a Lady.”  I’ll be sure to post some pictures of racing and revelry.
